It's not the thought that counts

If only we were judged by our intentions. Why is it that Christians may continually come for church services, hear a thought provoking, heart piercing sermon but continually go about without changing their life and building their commitment to the Lord?

One of the reasons is we often evaluate our spiritual state by our thoughts and intentions, but not our actions.

  • I meant to call my brother or sister in Christ to see how they are doing, but I didn’t.

  • I meant to be more dedicated to the Lord’s work, but I wasn’t.

  • I sat in church services and thought I’m going to do that, be that and change that, but it never happened.

In Hebrews 11, faith and good intentions were demonstrated by action.

  • Noah would have never built the ark if he never picked up the tools and started working.

  • Abraham’s intention to go to a foreign land wouldn’t have gotten him very far if he hadn’t packed up his things and embarked on the journey.

  • Moses proved his love for God and for his people by choosing to endure ill treatment rather than the passing pleasures of sin.

If you feel you struggle with not following though on your good intentions, you are not alone. Here are some helpful keys to remember. Those good thoughts and good deeds are opportunities given to you from the Lord. All action begins in our hearts and in our minds. It is God’s will that we follow through on those good intentions. After all, it is what we as Christians have been created to do (Eph. 2:10).

Go be doers, and not just good intenders. Always try to remember, its not the thought that counts, but what we do with those thoughts.
